While clients want thick and beautiful hair on our heads, many patients want to remove unwanted hair on other areas of their body. A simple procedure can help clients achieve a hair-free look at specific, targeted areas using laser hair removal.
Laser hair removal is the targeted destruction of dark hair follicles in particular areas of the body. The treatment utilizes highly-concentrated light emissions to target hair on the skin and damage the source at the level of the follicle, stunting and preventing regrowth to that area.
Over the course of 1 to 3 weeks, the hair in the treated areas will simply fall away. With each treatment, patients will see a decrease in the amount of hair in treatment zones. Completing the entire designated treatment session will ensure the permanence of hair reduction. This is usually completed in 3 to 7 procedure sessions.
Consultation and Treatment Day
All patients will receive a consultation to discuss their hair removal goals and what areas will be targeted. Many women and opt for removal of all facial hair, including pesky chin hairs and mustaches. The bikini area is another popular choice area.
There are different types of lasers used on light and darker skin to ensure the best results possible. With the proper training and lasers, permanent hair removal is possible for virtually every skin color and hair type. Darker hair is usually treated more easily, while lighter colors of hair such as blond, gray, and red can require more frequent treatments. The clinician will determine what is best for each patient during the initial consultation.
Laser hair removal is often called “a lunchtime procedure,” meaning patients are in and out of the office in the short time it would take for a lunch break. There is no downtime required and patients can return to work, play, and exercise immediately thereafter. Lasers do not remove skin; they target hair follicles so there are little to no risks involved with this treatment. A clinician will speak with each patient to review risks and benefit and talk about hair removal goals and expectations prior to any procedure.
The staff will provide a topical anesthetic to the treatment area for patient comfort. Some clients describe the feeling as a rubber band snapping against their skin. However, most say laser hair removal is more comfortable when compared to threading, waxing, or other hair removal methods. Multiple treatments will be needed to achieve desirable results.
